Paignton and Torbay’s premier sports bar offering more meals, deals, specials and happy hours than you can shake a stick at.
Open (and licensed, if in need of a livener) from 8:00am for breakfasts, coffees and drinks right through the day until midnight. Food is served until late in the evening unless the football’s on and that rule applies every day. This is primarily a sports bar so if there’s a big game on don’t expect to be eating during it! However, the other 14 hours the bar is open for is just fine.
There’s all sort of grills, steaks, combos, jackets, burgers and baguettes on offer as well as a very tempting 2 meals for £11 offer on meals like cod and chips, rumps, gammons, sausage and mash and lots more. There is also a daily roast with a selection of meats
available. every Friday is steak night where you can have 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for less than £20. Slightly less, it’s £19.95 – good value. Check out the menus below.
Thursday nights are curry nights where you can have a selection of curries with all the trimmings and a pint for just £6.95. Check out the blackboard for the daily specials as well as all the 2 meals for a tenner options. Monday-Thursday from 4:00pm-6:00pm is steak and a pint for £8. That gets you an 8oz rump with chips, mushrooms and a grilled tomato plus drink.
Happy hours for drinks is 4:00-7:30pm Monday-Friday where premium beers are on offer at £3 a pint and Carlsberg, Thatchers Gold and Tetley are £2.50. No happy hour on a Saturday but Sunday is from 6:00pm-11:00p. Bank holidays are excluded. Cash and all major cards are accepted.

Maido Japanese Noodle Bar opened up just over a year and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Kyoko’s (the owner) ambition is to provide people with fresh, healthy food at a reasonable cost, that can be eaten in a friendly approachable atmosphere. Much of their food is cooked in front of the customer while they wait – In Japan, this is known as Teppan-style. Maido is a relatively unique shop/food bar which makes exciting ‘homemade’ Japanese dishes. Their establishment is bright and airy and not far at all from the town centre, some people may say ‘tucked away’ – I prefer ‘hidden gem’. There’s plenty to sample here that you probably won’t be familiar with unless you’re an aficionado of Japanese cooking but don’t let that put you off, Kyoko is very friendly and more than willing to help you choose the right dish for you as she did for me.
Maido would happily consider opening on an evening for a reasonable size party of people for a special event.
Opening hours are: Sunday & Monday Closed. Tuesday – Thursday 11.30am – 4pm. Friday 11.30am – 7:30pm & Saturday 11:30am – 4:30pm.
Situated right next door to the restaurant Shandiz Takeaway offers you great value fish n chips, burgers, pizzas and much more, so if you’re in a rush or too covered in sand to sit in the restaurant have a take-out from their sister site. Have a seat outside while you wait for your food to be cooked fresh. On a sunny day in Torquay, right here by the harbour you could be anywhere in Europe, the south of France or the Med watching the palm trees sway gently in the breeze. Then, when your fish has been cooked to perfection you can either take it home or to your hotel or wander round the harbour eating as you go. Whatever you do, you will enjoy Shandiz fish n chips or one of their pizzas or burgers.

The Dolphin sits squarely in the middle of St Marychurchs’ precinct. After 24 years looking after peoples’ hair and being a regular user of the pub, Ashley decided he liked it so much he bought it. He took it over in December 2010 and has set about refurbishing the place both inside and out. In addition to this The Dolphin now does food! Served from midday til 9:00pm Tuesday-Saturday and from 1:00pm til 8:00pm on a Sunday (Ashley has the day off on a Monday) a wide selection of starters, sandwiches, light lunches or main meals are available to you. From mussels mariniere, pate and toast to a cheese and tomato sandwich or tagliatelle pasta, there should be something here to suit everyone. There are daily deals of two 10oz rump steaks for £17. Also available are main meals 2 for £12. There’s also a childrens menu. Everything is home cooked and freshly produced to order so you may have to wait a little bit longer if the pub is busy but it will be worth it. Pub opening hours are from 11:00am til midnight every day except Sunday when the pub opens at midday. This is a non-sport pub so don’t expect to find endless replays of long forgotten football matches that nobody wants to watch being played at deafening volume! Ales on offer include Otter, Betty Stogs and Trelawany as well as guest ales while the cider is provided by Aspalls and Thatchers Gold. The pub is family run and family friendly so feel free to bring the kids along. The menus are below: The Dolphin 001 The Dolphin 003
