Welcome to Shandiz, one of Torquay’s newest restaurants. Situated on the harbourside opposite the car park, with beautiful views across the harbour and beyond. What better place to relax and unwind after work or if you’re on holiday or having a day out with the kids. Kick back and let Angelina and her team serve you while you soak up the views on offer. This is a great spot for people-watching too! The restaurant is bright and airy and boasts a menu that should have something on offer for everyone’s taste whether big or small.
Breakfasts are served from 9:00am until noon and while you can have a full English you could also try smoked salmon and scrambled, poached or fried eggs on a warm muffin. Lunch is served from noon daily and seamlessly segues into dinner. All your favourites are here from a range of pizzas and burgers to steaks, paninis, jacket potatoes, salads and chicken dishes. Monkfish, plaice, haddock and sea bass are all on offer too. Dinner is served until late and the bar is licensed until midnight. Be sure to check out the cocktail menu below where all cocktails are £4.95! There is also a small but varied wine list to accompany your meal.
So come on in and be spoilt by Angelina and her friendly staff whether it’s just for a coffee or something more substantial. Be sure to check out Shandizs’ sister site right next door! If you’re in a hurry then have a takeaway instead at Shandiz Takeaway.

Situated right next door to the restaurant Shandiz Takeaway offers you great value fish n chips, burgers, pizzas and much more, so if you’re in a rush or too covered in sand to sit in the restaurant have a take-out from their sister site. Have a seat outside while you wait for your food to be cooked fresh. On a sunny day in Torquay, right here by the harbour you could be anywhere in Europe, the south of France or the Med watching the palm trees sway gently in the breeze. Then, when your fish has been cooked to perfection you can either take it home or to your hotel or wander round the harbour eating as you go. Whatever you do, you will enjoy Shandiz fish n chips or one of their pizzas or burgers.
The menus are in the pictures below.
Maido Japanese Noodle Bar opened up just over a year and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Kyoko’s (the owner) ambition is to provide people with fresh, healthy food at a reasonable cost, that can be eaten in a friendly approachable atmosphere. Much of their food is cooked in front of the customer while they wait – In Japan, this is known as Teppan-style. Maido is a relatively unique shop/food bar which makes exciting ‘homemade’ Japanese dishes. Their establishment is bright and airy and not far at all from the town centre, some people may say ‘tucked away’ – I prefer ‘hidden gem’. There’s plenty to sample here that you probably won’t be familiar with unless you’re an aficionado of Japanese cooking but don’t let that put you off, Kyoko is very friendly and more than willing to help you choose the right dish for you as she did for me.
Maido would happily consider opening on an evening for a reasonable size party of people for a special event.
Opening hours are: Sunday & Monday Closed. Tuesday – Thursday 11.30am – 4pm. Friday 11.30am – 7:30pm & Saturday 11:30am – 4:30pm.
The Clocktower Bar and Pub is Torquay’s foremost sporting venue. This is Torquay’s premier sports bar showing football, rubgy, racing, Gaelic football and just about any other sport you can think of to ask them for.
Let’s get the food out of the way. It’s made up of typical and traditional British pub grub. The kitchen opens at noon every day and serves lunch up until 6:00pm when dinner takes over and is served til around 9:30pm. There’s daily specials on offer on the board inside with room for 30 diners inside with another 52 outside.
Parking is either on street or in the local car park across the road. DON’T get caught out by the taxi rank outside like I did, which looks like it’s pay parking all day til 6:00pm then free like everywhere else. It is pay parking, then it becomes a taxi rank from 6-8:00pm and if you park there for longer than a couple of seconds you will get a ticket.
There we go, that’s that sorted, now for the sport and the drinking. The pub serves from 11:00am until 1:00am pretty much 7 days a week except Sunday. The bitters change regularly and you can pay by cash or card.
This is a pub that welcomes rugby teams, stag parties and the like. Make sure you give the manager a ring first and he’ll lay something on for you FREE of charge whether it’s a finger buffet or sandwiches or just a little something to soak up the booze and help you have a good night and not feel too rough the next day. So if you’re playing locally or coming down for the weekend on a club jolly, get in touch and let the team at The Clocktower look after you from start to finish. There aren’t many places that actively encourage rugby teams and stag patries in the Bay so take advantage while you can.
Whatever you're here for, business or the pleasure of watching the palm trees sway on a hazy day on The English Riviera while indulging in our nascent café society, sipping on a latté round the harbour or you're desperate to get in the pub because football kicks off in 10 minutes and you still don't know where to go yet and you need to line your stomach for the hard day/night of drinking ahead, you've come to the right place. Settle down, kick back and have a good old click around our website. We hope you enjoy it and find what you are looking for.
